India: Cloudburst triggers flood fury trapping owner with pet dog in raging waters, dramatic zip-line rescue follows

Mandi, India - July 01, 2025 A heartwarming rescue unfolded where a man and his dog were safely evacuated after getting stranded in sudden flash floods triggered by a cloudburst. The incident occurred in Chalaru village, Lower Karsog tehsil in Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh, northern India, on July 1. The visuals from the scene show a man and his pet dog stranded in a swollen river. Soon after, the rescue team arrives and swiftly sets up a rope system. The dog is securely harnessed to the rope, which is then carefully pulled across using a zip-line mechanism. As the team steadily draws the rope toward them, the dog is safely brought to shore. Once the dog reaches the team, they unhook the harness, completing the rescue successfully. Hardyal Thakur, Fireman, Karsog, Mandi district, said that he incident took place on Tuesday. Torrential rain has wreaked havoc across the region, triggering cloudbursts, severe waterlogging, and causing rivers and drains to overflow. Amid the chaos, a man and his pet dog became trapped in the rising floodwaters. Upon receiving an emergency call, the Home Guard and rescue-search team from the Fire Department promptly launched an operation and successfully reached the stranded duo. Due to their swift response, both the man and the dog were rescued unharmed, drawing praise for the responders’ courage and efficiency. So far, a total of 117 people have been rescued from affected areas in Mandi. Authorities have urged residents to stay indoors and avoid venturing near rising water bodies as relief and rescue operations continue. Weather officials remain on high alert as rainfall is expected to persist in the coming days.
