Two people were injured when a fire broke out in a ship kitchen from a suspected gas leak.

Crew fled the LCT Lily Princess after the blaze erupted while the vessel was docked at the Sorcom Private Port in Albay on Wednesday.

Footage shows firefighters tackling the large flames billowing out of the kitchen area as the crew were evacuated.

In a press release, the Coast Guard District Bicol said: 'According to initial reports, the fire originated from the galley area of the vessel and rapidly intensified, prompting immediate emergency response.

'The Coast Guard substation Legazpi personnel led by ENS RAYMOND METRAN PCG coordinated with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) – Sto. Domingo for firefighting assistance and alerted the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) and Marine Environmental Protection Enforcement and Response Group- Bicol (MEPERG-BCL) to monitor possible oil spill or hazardous substance leakage.'

Local media reported two people suffered minor injuries and were rushed to the Bicol Regional Hospital and Medical Centre for further treatment.

Authorities believe a gas leak had sparked the fire, adding they were investigating the exact cause of the incident.
