US: Lava Fountain Blasts 650 Feet Into The Air During Kīlauea Eruption

United States - July 09, 2025 On Wednesday, July 9, scientists from the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory conducted an aerial overflight of Halemaʻumaʻu crater during Kīlauea summit eruption episode 28. During the flight, the team briefly landed on the crater floor to collect lava samples. While on site, they filmed a short video showing the north vent lava fountain in the western section of the crater. The lava fountain reached a height of approximately 200 meters, or 650 feet.
