CHP Stops Wrong-Way Driver, Prevents Potential Head-On Crash
EL CAJON, Calif. — California Highway Patrol officers in El Cajon safely stopped a wrong-way driver on Interstate 8, preventing what could have been a deadly crash, authorities said.
On July 9, the driver was reported traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of the freeway. Officers quickly located the vehicle, executed a safe stop, and arrested the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence. The individual was booked into the county jail.
CHP credited the officers’ quick and decisive action with averting a major incident. Officials reminded the public that most wrong-way crashes are caused by impaired or distracted driving and urged motorists to stay alert—especially at night—move to the right when spotting a wrong-way driver, and call 911 immediately.
