Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain - July 10, 2025 Police intercepted 72 kilograms of cocaine concealed in a ship’s hull and luggage during a port inspection. The operation, conducted in coordination with the Customs Maritime Agency, uncovered 50 kilos hidden inside a large suitcase on a supply vessel servicing merchant ships. An additional 22 kilos were found in a black bag concealed within the water intake grilles of one of the ships serviced by the supply vessel. Suspicion arose during a routine inspection of the supply boat at the Port of Las Palmas. Three crew members were onboard: the captain, a sailor, and an unregistered crewman. Following the initial cocaine discovery in the suitcase, a thorough search revealed diving equipment in the vessel’s hold. Further investigation by the police’s specialized GEAS unit uncovered more cocaine packages hidden in the ship’s water intake grilles. Two of those involved were workers at the Port of Las Palmas. The case has been handed over to the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria court, which has ordered provisional imprisonment for those responsible.
