Iowa City, United States - July 06, 2025 A dramatic video shows an Amazon semi-truck losing control on slick pavement, narrowly avoiding a collision and nearly falling into the Iowa River. The semi was traveling southbound on Riverside Drive just before 6:15 a.m. when it appeared to hydroplane on standing water while navigating a curve. The truck veered left, crossed an intersection, and continued onto the riverbank near a park. The vehicle came to a stop before plunging into the river, with its trailer blocking a sidewalk leading to the Iowa Memorial Union footbridge. This close call happened only days after another vehicle crashed into the Iowa River on the opposite side of the Iowa Avenue Bridge. That incident involved an 18-year-old woman driving a 2009 Chevy Malibu just after 3 a.m. on Sunday. She was charged with operating while intoxicated. Authorities have not released details about the semi-truck driver.
