Boulders tumbled onto a mountain road as a quarry suffered a landslide following days of heavy rains.

Footage shows massive rocks rolling down the cliff while stranded motorists waited at a distance in Mountain Province, the Philippines, on July 10.

One side of the hill gave way, sending debris crashing down and blocking the road.

The falling rocks created loud rumbling as dust clouds rose from the mountainside like smoke.

Local Rosalina Pesana said: ‘While passing by the Abatan Mabaay Road in Bauko, we saw the workers running while big rocks were falling from the quarry. No one was wounded.'

Motorists were forced to turn back as the route became impassable.

Authorities said no injuries were reported, but the road remained closed to traffic.

Ampinke Rock Quarry is an active quarry located in Bauko, Mountain Province, the Philippines. It is one of the two known operating quarries in the province and is used as a local source for construction materials like gravel and sand.

The Philippines and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are at the start of their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms. The rudimentary infrastructure often struggles with the deluge, leading to widespread flash floods.
