Sudden road collapse sends car plunging into water-filled sinkhole in China
On the morning of 11 July, a section of road on Hengshan Road in Zhengding County, Hebei, suddenly collapsed, forming a large sinkhole. A car passing by fell into the hole, ending up nose-down and suspended upside down. The pit was filled with dirty water, but the driver managed to open the door and escape on their own.
Following the incident, police, urban management, and emergency services quickly arrived at the scene to handle the situation. No injuries were reported.
Preliminary investigations suggest the collapse was caused by water leakage from underground pipelines, which eroded the roadbed.
Road repairs are currently underway, with traffic expected to resume on the afternoon of 12 July.
