Four killed when cement mixer crashes into row of homes in Indonesia
Four people were killed when a cement mixer truck ploughed into homes in Indonesia.
Shocking CCTV footage shows the out-of-control vehicle barreling down the street in Bangli Regency on the popular holiday island of Bali, on Thursday morning.
The truck crashed into parked cars and roadside stalls before smashing through a row of houses.
Local media reported at least four people were killed, including the truck driver Siswanto, 54, who was found crushed in the driver's cabin.
A resident Ni Nengah Rania, 71, also died when the truck mowed down her stall, while a grandfather I Nengah Resep, 73, was buried under debris as he was cooking in his home.
AKP I Wayan Sarta, spokesman for the Bangli Police, said in a statement on July 10: 'The truck hit cars and homes in Bangklet Hamlet, Kayubih Village, Bangli Regency.
'The incident started when the truck sped across from Jalan Nusantara Road in Kintamani District heading toward Bangli. When it reached the area at around 8:30 am, it slammed into a Suzuki APV with license plate DK 1961 ACA, then continued on and crashed into a roadside stall owned by local residents.
'The stall owner was killed, while the Suzuki driver suffered an elbow injury.
'Initial information is that there were four deaths.'
Authorities believe the accident was caused by overspeeding, faulty brakes and Siswanto's unfamiliarity with the route.
Police said they were investigating the exact cause of the crash.
Road accidents are common in Indonesia due to poor road safety education and habitual violations of traffic laws.
