A wild female leopard entered a village, sparking panic among residents, before being tranquilised and rescued safely.

The incident occurred in Simbal Gai, Kakugala village, Kalakote subdivision of Rajouri district, Jammu and Kashmir, northern India, on July 11.

Visuals from the scene show the leopard sitting outside a garage-like structure, while dogs inside bark aggressively at it. Moments later, the rescue team arrives with tranquiliser guns as police and villagers gather to witness the tense situation. The team then climbs onto a nearby rooftop to get a better aim and successfully tranquilizes the leopard. Once the animal collapses, it is safely secured and carried away by the rescue team.

According to Iftkhar H Khan, Forest Range Officer, Department of Wildlife Protection, Jammu Kashmir, the incident occurred on Friday morning when villagers saw a wild leopard near their homes and promptly alerted authorities.

A team from the Department of Wildlife Protection, led by Range Officer Iftkhar H Khan, quickly responded and launched a rescue operation.

The leopard was successfully tranquilised and later shifted to the Wildlife Veterinary Centre in Jammu for medical examination and care. Preliminary assessments suggest the animal may be suffering from underlying health issues.
