The M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System, or HIMARS, capable of firing multiple 227mm rockets or a single ATACMS missile with a range of up to 300 kilometers, was mobilized by the 58th Artillery Command. Taiwan has acquired 29 HIMARS units from the United States to strengthen its defenses amid rising military pressure from China in the Taiwan Strait. According to Focus Taiwan, the 10-day exercise marks the longest live-fire segment in the history of Han Kuang drills. The drills focus on countering China's "gray zone" tactics, joint anti-landing operations, and resilient island defense, with several U.S.-supplied weapons making their debut. Previous exercises lasted five days, making this year’s edition the most extensive to date.
