COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers rescued a black bear from a storm drain Thursday in the Ivywild neighborhood of Colorado Springs.

According to the agency’s Southeast Region, the adult male bear was safely removed after Public Works crews from the City of Colorado Springs helped open the storm drain cover. Once freed, the bear climbed a nearby tree.

Wildlife officials said it’s common for bears to remain in trees until nightfall, when they feel safe enough to leave the area.

Residents are reminded to report wildlife sightings and avoid approaching wild animals, even when they appear trapped or in distress.
