LARGO, Fla. — Firefighters with Largo Fire Rescue's Engine 43 went beyond the call of duty this week when they responded to a medical emergency involving a resident who fell ill while doing yard work.

After assisting Sunstar Paramedics with patient care and ensuring the individual was safely transported to a hospital, the Engine 43 crew — Lt. Matt Handwerk, FF/PM Andrew Ploski, and FF/EMT Steven Thompson — returned to the yard. Rather than leaving the task unfinished, they grabbed the lawn tools and completed the mowing themselves.

The crew’s simple act of kindness left behind more than just a freshly cut lawn — it left an impact on the community. Largo Fire Rescue thanked the firefighters for “going above and beyond” for local residents.
