ALBANY, N.Y. — Drone footage released by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation shows a group of sharks swimming through schools of Atlantic menhaden off the state’s ocean beaches, highlighting the region’s vibrant marine ecosystem.

The release comes just ahead of Shark Awareness Week, which kicks off tomorrow. The campaign aims to educate the public on the importance of sharks in coastal ecosystems and how to stay safe while enjoying New York’s marine waters.

Officials remind beachgoers that the Atlantic Ocean is home to a variety of marine species—including sharks—and urge swimmers to follow safety tips shared throughout the week to stay #SharkSmart.
