KERR COUNTY, Texas — As torrential rain flooded parts of Kerr County last week, first responders from state, local and federal agencies carried out hundreds of rescues by air, ground and boat in a massive, multi-day operation.

Crews saved individuals trapped in vehicles, stranded in flooded homes and even clinging to trees miles from where they were swept away. Among the rescue teams was the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Aircraft Operations Division, which played a vital role in the aerial efforts.

“The events of the last week have been devastating,” said DPS Colonel Freeman F. Martin. “But through it all, our first responders have shown remarkable strength and determination.” Martin praised the joint rescue efforts as a powerful reflection of the Texas spirit.
