Naked American tourist rescued from sewer outside his apartment in Bangkok
This is the bizarre moment a naked American tourist was rescued after he was wedged in a sewer outside his apartment.
The holidaymaker, identified only as Jack, 28, allegedly crawled into the hole in the pavement on his own before becoming stuck in front of the Metro Park Condominium in Bangkok, Thailand, this morning.
Emergency services were called to the scene after shocked passersby heard him grunting while trying to free himself. They found the shirtless American panicking as his torso was lodged in the drain, with his bare legs protruding out the other end.
The rescue team drilled through the concrete to widen the opening as Jack insisted he did not need any help. When they reached out to grab him, he wriggled to try and reach but became lodged further in the opening.
Officers were forced to crawl into the hole themselves, where they tied a cloth around Jack's body and winched him to safety.
While being checked for wounds, Jack claimed he was 'just relaxing', adding that he was unhurt.
Footage shows the crazed tourist trying to bite the rescuers' hands as they strapped him onto a rescue board. They had to muzzle his mouth with a face mask when he began spitting on them.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Nopparat Muenwong of Bang Khun Thian district police station said: ‘When we arrived, we found the foreigner, aged around 30, named Jack. He was struggling against the rescue team and spoke incoherently. We were unsure if he was drunk or if he had taken drugs.
‘He stays at the condominium, and he was sent to a hospital for a check-up.'
Condo staff said Jack lived with his Thai girlfriend.
Officials said they were investigating how he ended up in the pipe and if he had taken drugs, which are widespread in the country following the legalisation of cannabis. Police said they were coordinating with the US Embassy to inform his relatives.
In May 2023, an American tourist was rescued after allegedly wandering for four hours through the sewers in 'Sin City' Pattaya.
Johnathan Ioane Vaimaona, 36, was returning to his hotel when he plunged into an uncovered manhole.
He was said to have roamed the underground sewage system crying for assistance for 'what felt like days' before finally hearing voices coming from a storm drain with light streaming in from above.
Rescuers and residents lifted the drain grates and pulled Johnathan out of the 10ft deep hole on May 12.
