This is the dramatic moment a police chase ended when a suspect crashed his car into a cornfield.

The pursuit began in northern Missouri and moved south on U.S. Highway 63 before shifting east onto Interstate 70 on July 9.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol disengaged near a construction zone but alerted Montgomery County deputies about the fleeing driver's approach.

At approximately 9:45 am, deputies identified a black Volkswagen Taos with Texas plates travelling eastbound near the 155-mile marker.

Around 10:07 am, they attempted a traffic stop near mile marker 176.2.

The motorist reportedly accelerated rapidly, reaching speeds of over 100 miles per hour, weaving through traffic, and using the shoulder to pass other vehicles.

He then exited the highway at mile marker 179 in High Hill, failed to stop at a sign, lost control, skidded sideways, and nearly struck a marked patrol vehicle before re-entering eastbound I-70.

Jonesburg Police deployed spike strips at mile marker 184, puncturing both passenger-side tyres.

The wanted man continued eastbound, exited at mile marker 186, and drove through a ditch onto the South Service Road before turning onto Scudder Ranch Road and heading east on Warren County State Highway B.

Roughly 1.5 miles later, the vehicle left the roadway and rolled multiple times before coming to rest in a cornfield.

The offending driver, 24, from St Louis was taken into custody at the scene with minor injuries. He was transported for medical evaluation before being booked into the Montgomery County Jail, where he remains held without bond.

Authorities confirmed he faces charges of aggravated fleeing from law enforcement, operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner, and operating a motor vehicle without a valid licence.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office expressed gratitude to Jonesburg Police and the Missouri State Highway Patrol for their assistance in ending the pursuit safely.
