The New York subway was flooded as heavy rain swept through Manhattan, disrupting travel and swamping parts of the underground system.

Footage captured by Veronica Zhang shows floodwaters gushing through the 28th Street station and slowly accumulating on the ground on July 14.

Heavy rain swept through the region on Monday, triggering flooding in parts of New Jersey and New York's northern suburbs.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency in response to the severe weather.

Commuters were advised to delay travel while train services between Manhattan and the Bronx were suspended.
