A terrifying landspout tornado tore off roofs and damaged homes in Colorado, leaving a trail of destruction across the area.

Footage shows debris being violently swept through the air as the swirling column tore through the neighbourhood on July 14.

A truck was seen speeding away as the twister passed dangerously close.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office reported that the freak weather phenomenon damaged at least three buildings along Highway 86 and Burning Tree.

Authorities confirmed: 'Everyone has been accounted for. No injuries have been reported.'

Landspouts are generally weaker and shorter-lived compared to tornadoes spawned by supercell thunderstorms. They also tend to be narrower and have a less defined cloud structure.
