Roads were submerged after heavy rain swept through New Jersey, causing widespread flooding across the region.

Footage captured by Roberto Carlos Caluna shows a heavily flooded street with several cars partially submerged in North Plainfield on Monday, July 14.

The downpour triggered flooding in parts of New Jersey and New York's northern suburbs.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency in response to the severe weather.

Commuters were advised to delay travel while train services between Manhattan and the Bronx were suspended.
