BERLIN, Conn. — A man suspected of overdosing behind the wheel fled Berlin police officers on July 11 after ramming two patrol vehicles and leading authorities on a pursuit that ended in New Britain.

At approximately 9:15 p.m., officers discovered a Jeep Grand Cherokee stopped at Christian Lane and Massirio Drive with the driver, identified as 40-year-old Christopher Criss, unconscious and the vehicle still in drive. After failed attempts to wake him, officers forced entry to render aid. Criss suddenly woke, resisted efforts, reversed into a patrol car, then accelerated forward, striking a second cruiser and fleeing the scene.

New Britain police later located the vehicle at a gas station. Criss again resisted arrest, injuring two officers and damaging multiple vehicles. He was taken into custody and faces multiple charges from both agencies, including possession of a stolen vehicle. No Berlin officers were injured.
