This is the dramatic moment pet dogs chased away a huge monitor lizard through homes in Bangkok.

CCTV footage shows three brave canines running after the predator in a riverside area on April 29.

Frantic women and children outside can be seen screaming as they scattered in all directions to safety.

One of the adults even climbed onto a table to escape the reptile, while a youngster dashed out of the place.

Meanwhile, the pooches continuously barked at the monitor lizard as it slithered away from them.

Moments later, the animals' owner shouted at them to stop chasing the lizard, prompting the obedient dogs to turn back to their keeper.

No one was reportedly injured in the encounter.

Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.

The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
