Dealer carrying 500lbs of cannabis leads police on motorway chase
A suspected drug dealer allegedly carrying 500 lbs of cannabis led police on a high-speed motorway chase in Brazil.
The dramatic pursuit unfolded on the BR-277 motorway near Curitiba, in the southern state of Parana, on Thursday, July 10.
Dashcam footage from a police patrol car shows the suspect weaving through traffic and performing several illegal manoeuvres in an attempt to evade capture.
Officers stayed close behind until the suspect's black vehicle collided with another car while attempting to force its way through a traffic jam.
Police quickly pulled up behind and exited their vehicle, one officer drawing a handgun, the other aiming an assault rifle, before ordering the suspect out of the car and onto the ground.
The man was arrested at the scene. A subsequent search revealed the vehicle was crammed with large packages of drugs in the boot, the rear footwell, and the front passenger area.
Authorities said they seized 502 lbs (228 kilogrammes) of cannabis resin.
The 25-year-old driver, not named in local media, was also found to be driving a stolen vehicle, originally white but repainted black.
An investigation is ongoing.
