DRONE SHOT OF IPEK TRAVELLING BY MOTORCYCLE TOWARDS REMOTE VILLAGES TO SELL ICE CREAMDIYARBAKIR, TÜRKİYE - JULY 16, 2025: For over three decades now, a Turkish ice cream maker has been riding his motorbike through rural villages, delighting children with refreshing treats and bringing a touch of happiness to their summer days. Selahaddin Ipek, a 50-year-old ice cream maker from Cermik district of Diyarbakir province, has been offering ice cream and bringing summer joy to children in rural villages. Having learned the trade as a young man, Ipek now runs a small family ice cream business with his wife and son. Each summer, he loads thermoses of homemade ice cream onto his motorbike and rides out to remote villages where shops are few and far between. At the sound of his horn, children rush out in excitement, and even adults pause on their way to the fields to enjoy a cool treat. The joy on their faces, Ipek says, is what keeps him going. Over the years, he has become a familiar and much-loved figure in these communities—serving ice cream to generations. He reflected that he used to sell ice cream to children who had since grown up and now had kids of their own. For Ipek, it’s not just about money. Sometimes, he trades cones for a couple of eggs, a kind word, or a simple prayer. His visits have become a cherished summer tradition, bringing happiness and a sense of connection to the villages he serves.
