Chaos as boy gets head stuck in narrow gap between escalator and wall
On July 16, a frightening incident occurred at a shopping plaza in Shapingba District, Chongqing, when a young boy got his head stuck between an escalator and the wall after playing while riding the escalator.
The situation was urgent, but nearby shoppers quickly reacted by pressing the emergency stop button, halting the escalator and preventing further injury. Several bystanders then worked together to rescue the boy, using tools and force to widen the gap and eventually free him.
After the rescue, the boy’s parents immediately took him to the hospital, where he was found to have no serious injuries.
On the 17th, mall staff stated that the incident was caused by the boy's curiosity as he tried to "wedge his head" into the space, and not due to a mechanical fault. Safety warnings were already posted by the escalator, and yellow caution signs have since been added. The mall urged parents to better supervise their children.
