Israel - July 16, 2025 IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi conducted a high-level situational assessment at Nafah Base in the Golan Heights amid heightened tensions along the Israel–Syria border. Joined by senior military leadership, including the Deputy Chief of Staff and commanders from Northern Command and Military Intelligence, the meeting focused on reinforcing efforts to prevent hostile entrenchment in southern Syria and protect Israeli citizens and the Druze community on both sides of the border. Halevi emphasized Israel's commitment to preventing terror strongholds from forming in southern Syria, reinforcing border defenses, and safeguarding the Druze population from harm. In recent days, the IDF has targeted Syrian regime positions in the Suwayda region and, more recently, in Damascus. The Chief of Staff also called on the Druze community to act responsibly while reaffirming the IDF’s commitment to their security.
