ISTANBUL, TÜRKİYE (JULY 17: Istanbul Airport set a new record on July 2 by enabling the simultaneous takeoff of 81 aircraft in one hour, thanks to its triple-runway operation allowing three planes to depart at the same time, according to the claim of the Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure.
Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu issued a written statement regarding the triple-runway operation at Istanbul Airport.
Uraloglu claimed that as part of the triple-runway operation, which has been implemented at Istanbul Airport since April 17 and allows the simultaneous landing and takeoff of three aircraft, 81 planes took off in one hour on July 2, setting a new record.
Claiming that a record was set on July 2 with 81 aircraft taking off in one hour, Uraloglu stated, “We aim to reduce the aircraft takeoff taxi time to 15 minutes and the landing taxi time to 12 minutes.”
He said that thanks to this airspace design, aircraft are directed to perform direct approaches and takeoffs with fewer maneuvers.
He added that this situation, especially at low altitude levels, shortens flight time and directly reduces emissions during this phase, where emissions are most intensive.
Uraloglu said, “Thanks to this, we will save 80 kilograms of fuel per aircraft from takeoff taxi time, 60 kilograms from landing taxi time, and 300 kilograms from waiting time.”
