This is the shocking moment a passenger's face was slashed by glass shards when a rock was hurled through a train window.

Widya Anggraini, 30, suffered multiple facial injuries after the stone smashed through the windowpane while she was travelling in Indonesia.

She was en route from Yogyakarta to Surabaya aboard a train operated by Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI).

Footage shows Widya seated by the window, recording herself reading a book for her social media feed, when the glass suddenly shattered, sending shards directly onto her on July 6.

She immediately clutched her face with her eyes closed as another passenger beside her quickly supported her head. They helped her out of her seat and moved her to another carriage for safety.

The train crew rushed to administer first aid following the incident.

In another clip, Widya can be seen seated with her face covered in blood, accompanied by her friend.

The victim recalled that there were broken glass fragments in her hair, on her face, and even inside her clothing.

She said: 'The crew members quickly ushered me to the back of the train and carefully removed each shard of glass from my skin. A small shard of glass had to be removed from my eye as well.'

Local media reported that Widya was later dropped off at Solo Balapan Station (SLO), where she received further medical treatment.

KAI has since issued a public apology and confirmed that Widya is receiving ongoing medical attention.

A spokesman said: 'We are very concerned and regretful about the incident. Our Regional Health Unit will support her through the recovery process until she is fully healed.'

On July 8, Widya said that she had completed her treatment at an eye centre. However, she still experiences a stinging pain around her head due to the wounds.

The train company is currently investigating the identity and whereabouts of the perpetrators and has vowed to hand them over to authorities once identified.

In a separate incident on July 6, a section of Sancaka Train 88F, operating between Yogyakarta and Surabaya, was struck by a thrown rock, causing a carriage window to shatter and injuring two passengers.

On July 9, the Minister of Transportation, Dudy Purwagandhi, ordered a mapping of rock-throwing hotspots, focusing on areas with poor lighting and high nighttime exposure.

Under Indonesia's Railway Law (Law No. 23/2007) and the Criminal Code - Article 194, acts that endanger rail traffic are strictly prohibited. Offenders may face up to 15 years in prison, or 20 years to life imprisonment if the attack results in fatalities.
