Wildlife officers at the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Southeast Region office were met with an unexpected surprise on July 16 when they discovered a group of newborn squirrels nestled inside a car engine.

The tiny animals, only a few days old, had found shelter among the engine components of a vehicle parked at the CPW office in Colorado Springs. Officers quickly documented the discovery, capturing heartwarming video footage of the fragile creatures tucked safely in their unusual hiding spot.

The squirrels were gently removed from the engine compartment and are now in the care of a licensed wildlife rehabilitator.

They will remain under professional supervision until they are old enough to be released back into the wild.
