Fire rips through massage spa in Bangkok
A fire broke out at a massage spa in a busy district in Bangkok today.
Footage shows the blaze ripping through the Teava Wellness & Spa parlour in the area packed with restaurants and shops this morning.
Firefighters rushed to the scene after being alerted at 6:30 am local time. They found the flames tearing through the fourth floor of the four-storey commercial building.
Crews battled doused the blaze and extinguished it at 7am with no injuries or casualties reported. A restaurant next to the spa was also razed, they said.
Police Major General Watee Asawutmangkul, commander of the Central Police Forensic Science Division, said: 'According to the inspection, we found the fire originated from a spa before spreading to a ramen shop. Both establishments used the same stairs.
‘The third floor of both shops was used as a joint storage area. Inside this room, there were some electrical appliances, and officers have already inspected and collected evidence.
‘The cause might be related to electrical appliance wires left connected overnight. We are checking again. The findings will be used in the case file for legal procedures and claiming insurance.'
Fires in Thailand are commonly caused by ageing electrical infrastructure, extensive use of wood in construction, and regional heat waves that can exacerbate fire risks.
Rapid fire response can also be hampered in densely packed neighbourhoods where narrow streets can delay firefighting efforts.
