Researchers have identified specific trees used by bears and other wildlife to leave scent marks. Known as “scent trees,” these are now under protection. Scientists are studying their characteristics, including height, age, species, and location. Wild animals — particularly bears — use these trees to mark territory, communicate with other animals, or relieve itching. The behavior, while biologically significant, also provides captivating insight into the secret lives of forest-dwelling wildlife.
