SHASTA-TRINITY NATIONAL FOREST, Calif. — Two super scoopers deployed to the Green Fire dumped 127,400 gallons of water on a 50-acre spot fire Monday, aiding ground crews in strengthening containment lines, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

The amphibious aircrafts, designed specifically for wildfire suppression, played a key role in the firefighting efforts following the July 15 flare-up. The scooper planes operate with remarkable efficiency—scooping more than 1,400 gallons of water in just 12 seconds, remaining on the water surface for only 20 seconds.

Officials reassured the public that no aquatic life is harmed during the scooping process. The aircraft intake system consists of two 3-by-9-inch openings, and fish typically sense the disturbance and flee the area before collection.

The coordinated air and ground effort continues to mitigate the spread of the Green Fire in Northern California.
