DAYTON, Ohio — A quick-thinking Ohio State Highway Patrol lieutenant came to the rescue of several ducklings after their mother was struck and killed on Interstate 70 in Montgomery County.

Lt. Dallas Root, from the patrol's Dayton Post, stepped in to save the orphaned birds, ensuring they were removed from danger and given a chance at survival.

Thanks to coordination with Brukner Nature Center, the ducklings are now in safe care and receiving the attention they need.
