Several cobras died at the site of a land fire on a plantation owned by residents in Limo Kaum Village, Limo Kaum District, Tanah Datar Regency, West Sumatra, on Sunday (20/07/2025).

The strong winds at the location where the land was burning caused the fire to spread quickly, making it difficult for officers to extinguish the land fire.

Land fires in West Sumatra continue to spread and have raised concerns from a number of parties, especially the public.

Apart from Tanah Datar Regency, other areas in West Sumatra where forest and land fires are currently occurring are Pasaman Regency, Limapuluh Kota Regency, and Solok Regency, with a total area of burned land of more than 400 hectares.

These areas are currently facing serious problems due to land fires that are difficult to control because several points occur in locations that are difficult for officers to reach.

Based on the latest data from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) as of Friday, July 18, 2025, 74 hot spots were detected in the West Sumatra region.

This number places West Sumatra in fifth place in the province with the most hot spots in Indonesia. The first position is occupied by Riau, which recorded 149 hot spots, followed by other provinces in Sumatra and Kalimantan.
