Phoenix, United States - July 20, 2025 07/20/2025 02:30 am GMT-0700 PHOENIX, Ariz. – An Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a male riding an electric dirt bike near 32nd Street and the Loop 101 around 2:30 a.m. Per AZDPS, the trooper observed the suspect, now identified as a teenage minor, riding recklessly prior to the attempted traffic stop. The trooper activated his lights and sirens, but the rider refused to yield. A pursuit was initiated, and Phoenix police resources were requested to assist. The Phoenix Police Department helicopter responded and located the suspect along a canal near Cave Creek Road and the Loop 101. Ground units disengaged from the pursuit and began tracking the suspect from a distance while the air unit tracked the rider from above. The suspect made his way into a desert near the Cave Buttes Recreation Area. Ground units established a large-scale perimeter around the recreation site while the suspect zig-zagged through rough desert terrain at the base of the Stone Butte West Hill. The suspect eventually entered the Boulder Creek Desert Foothills neighborhood near Cave Creek Road and Deer Valley Drive. The air unit witnessed the rider lose control near 22nd Street and Paraiso Drive around 3:30 a.m. Ground units quickly converged on the suspect's location, taking him into custody without further incident. Phoenix Fire Department crews responded to the scene and evaluated the suspect for minor injuries. The suspect refused medical attention and was transported to the DPS Encanto Station for booking. He faces felony flight, among other traffic-related charges.
