Los Angeles, United States - July 20, 2025 07/20/2025 12:59 am GMT-0700 NORWALK, Calif. – A traffic collision occurred on the southbound lanes of Interstate 605 near Firestone Boulevard early Sunday morning. The California Highway Patrol Santa Fe Springs office received reports around midnight of a two-vehicle crash involving a black Honda Civic and a Toyota Prius. Emergency responders reported that the situation escalated when flames erupted, resulting in one of the vehicles being fully engulfed in fire. Both vehicles were blocking traffic, prompting significant lane closures as authorities worked to manage the scene. At approximately 1:10 a.m., the California Highway Patrol confirmed a fatality associated with the collision and noted that all lanes, except for the high-occupancy vehicle lane, were closed due to the incident. By 1:15 a.m., a hard closure was implemented on southbound lanes at the junction with Rosecrans, with additional traffic control measures being put in place. Emergency services, including fire and towing, were dispatched to handle the situation, which began to unfold rapidly with reports of trapped individuals within the burning vehicle. Just before 1:30 a.m., authorities communicated that Firestone Boulevard had been closed off to reroute traffic away from the area. Four victims were pronounced deceased at the scene according to CHP log notes and LACoFD radio traffic, though unconfirmed at this time. Two other patients were also transported to the hospital in unknown conditions. Traffic control efforts continued as investigators began to determine the cause of the crash.
