The Chinese peacekeeping military utility helicopter unit and rapid response unit to the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) recently conducted a joint drill with peacekeepers from multiple other countries in the contested territory. Given the complex security situation in Abyei and the limitations on ground operations during the rainy season, the drill focused on rapid response, armed support, and medical rescue operations in the event of an attack on peacekeeping troops. The drill effectively enhanced the coordinated action capabilities of the participating multinational peacekeeping forces. The exercise simulated a scenario in which peacekeeping forces in the mission area came under armed attack. The participating Chinese peacekeeping helicopters transported rapid response and medical teams to the attack site to deploy troops and evacuate the wounded. Upon arriving at the site of simulated attack, the rapid response team swiftly established a defensive perimeter while medical personnel provided treatment to the injured within the secured area. Besides the Chinese peacekeepers, peacekeeping units from Ghana, Bangladesh and other countries also participated in the coordinated training including rapid boarding and disembarkation, area security defense, and emergency medical rescue.
