HUSSEIN NUSAIRAT, OFFICIAL FROM GOVERNORATE'S EMERGENCY AND DISASTERS COMMITTEE, SPEAKING TO ANADOLU (Arabic) DARAA, SYRIA - JULY 21: More than 3,500 families displaced by the clashes in Suwayda province migrated to Daraa, with new families arriving every day, Daraa Governorate Emergency Committee officials said on Monday. Hussein Nusayrat, member of the Executive Office Emergencies and Disasters of the Emergency Committee of Daraa Governorate, told AA reporter that there has been a massive wave of migration from Suwayda to the eastern countryside of Daraa province. Noting that the number of families leaving their homes due to security problems in Suwayda is increasing day by day, Nuseyrat said, "We have welcomed more than 3,500 families so far. More than 200 new migrant families arrived in Daraa this morning. There are families from Bedouin tribes, the Druze community and other provinces, as well as families from Suwayda." Nuseyrat said that most of the refugees have been placed in more than 30 temporary shelters set up in unused schools, while some families are staying with their relatives or have set up tents with their animals in open areas around the city. Nuseyrat stated that the host community was the first to lead the humanitarian aid activities and said: "Local people mobilized to meet basic needs from the first moment. Local and international humanitarian organizations were then involved. Daraa Governorate Emergency Committee, Civil Defense, Red Crescent and other aid organizations. While Syrian Red Crescent trucks entered Suwayda for humanitarian aid, ambulances from the Ministry of Civil Defense and the Ministry of Health were prevented from entering. Following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime last December, Israel intensified its air campaign in Syria and declared a buffer zone between the two countries defunct, alongside the 1974 Disengagement Agreement. Assad, Syria’s leader for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia in December, ending the Baath Party regime, which had been in power since 1963. A new transitional administration led by President Ahmad al-Sharaa was formed in January.
