This is the terrifying moment a buffalo defied a trip to a slaughterhouse and went on a rampage, leaving two people injured in Thailand.

The farm animal was being sold at a market where livestock is destined for the dinner plate when it was spooked by the noisy crowd in Maha Sarakham.

It reportedly rammed a woman before then goring her husband when he tried to save her.

Dramatic footage shows the man in a blue raincoat being dragged around by the animal as he clung onto its horns.

Onlookers screamed as the buffalo flung him across the mud. It tried to gore him, but he narrowly escaped the blow by scrambling away.

Terrified marketgoers fled and hid inside their cars as the buffalo's rampage continued for two more hours.

Villagers said they had to shoot the bovine three times before it could be subdued.

The injured couple were taken to a hospital for treatment.
