A suspected drug addict was arrested with dozens of ecstasy pills shaped like US President Donald Trump.

Motorcycle rider Ekkarin, 35, was stopped at a police checkpoint along Lat Phrao Road in Bangkok, Thailand, after officers noticed him acting suspiciously.

Police said he appeared evasive and was in a hurry to leave. They detained him for a search and found 59 blue ecstasy pills hidden in his belongings during the arrest on Monday.

The blue and orange tablets were shaped like US President Donald Trump's head, and were stamped with the words TRUMP and NL in large bold font.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Phichai Wichaya of Chok Chai Police Station said: 'The suspect faces three charges, including illegal possession of a Category 1 narcotic, operating a motorcycle under the influence of a Category 1 narcotic, and illegally consuming a Category 1 narcotic.

‘After the interrogation and recording of his arrest, he was handed over to the inquiry officer along with the seized items for further legal action.'

Ecstasy is classified as a Category 1 substance in Thailand.

Under Thai law, using Category 1 substances may be punished with up to three years in jail and a fine of up to 60,000 baht, while possession carries a fine of up to 200,000 baht and up to 10 years imprisonment.

Those convicted of dealing may face life imprisonment and a five million baht fine, depending on the amount involved. Producers, importers, and exporters of Category 1 substances face the same charges and may face the death penalty if it is proven their intent was to sell or distribute on a large scale.
