This is the dramatic moment locals struggled against strong winds during a typhoon onslaught in Hong Kong.

Footage captured by Simon Mak shows two men carefully ambling across the pavement while holding onto a transparent umbrella on Kung Yip Street in Kwai Chung.

They can be seen crunching along while walking close to each other before crossing to the other side of the road at a zebra crossing on July 20.

The pedestrians then gripped the umbrella's handle tightly as they fought off gusts of wind trying to blow them away, while their friend laughed in the background.

Typhoon Wipha battered the region, uprooting trees as the storm moved towards China.

Damage was seen along Paterson Street in Causeway Bay that same morning.

Officials said that the storm, which was later downgraded, made landfall in Guangdong province at around 5:50 pm local time.

More than 280,000 people were relocated. There was some 110 mm (four inches) of rain that fell within three hours, and maximum wind gusts had exceeded 167 kph (103 mph) at some points.
