The Famous landmark Hotel Bristol, earmarked for pulling down and conversion to High rise apartments has been at the center of heated debate. Conservationists objected to the plan, and also the intended use of the site for expensive properties not intended for local families. Fire broke out at 16:30 on the 22nd July 2025. Appliances have come from as far as Camborne twenty miles distant to the major event. Police were advised by fire officers that a release of Asbestos may be possible. The building dates from the 1920's and is now owned by a company with links to Fred Done of the Betfred betting empire.
