GLENDALE, Ariz. — A Glendale police officer took the plunge—literally—on July 16 to rescue a dog trapped in a canal, turning an ordinary shift into a heartwarming rescue mission.

After multiple 9-1-1 calls reported the stranded pup struggling to climb out of the water, the officer arrived on scene and didn’t hesitate. Leaping into the canal, the officer swam to the dog and safely brought it back to dry land, reuniting the wet but unharmed pet with its grateful owner.

The Glendale Police Department playfully noted the officer may now qualify as an honorary “retriever,” and thanked the community for reporting the incident so quickly.
