China: Giant inflatable dome facilitates eco-friendly urban construction in China
Storyline: Giant inflatable dome facilitates eco-friendly urban construction in China [Voice_over] A massive white dome, resembling a gigantic pillow, has been erected in the eastern Chinese city of Jinan to facilitate silent and efficient urban development. The air-filled dome will act as a shield to block dust and noise from a construction project from reaching nearby residences, schools, and other historic buildings. It also shields workers from the impacts of bad weather, ensuring construction can proceed as scheduled. The 50-meter -tall facility requires no support beams, which leaves plenty of room for large construction equipment to operate at full capacity. Staff from the construction team say the air pressure and temperature inside the dome are monitored in real time. [Sound_bite] Wang Luren, director of development and construction department, Quanfu River Investment and Development Co., Ltd.: "The air-supported structure's control system continuously monitors internal air pressure and temperature. Four high-capacity fans on the northern side maintain fresh air circulation. As large-scale construction progresses, we will install spray systems to suppress dust inside. The membrane fabric uses innovative PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) material, blocking 90 percent of UV rays with high thermal reflectivity and dissipation rates, while meeting B1-grade (flame-retardant) fire safety standards." [Voice_over] The dome will be deflated after the completion of the project and is set to become a popular choice for construction projects in some of the country's oldest cities.
