Second anniversary of NeuConnect power cable project linking UK to Germany off Kent
An ambitious project to run a power cable between the UK and Germany has reached its second anniversary off Kent (July 23).
The NeuConnect Interconnector aims to create the first direct power link between Germany and Great Britain, connecting two of Europe’s largest energy markets for the first time.
The project got under way in July 2023 when work commenced off the Isle of Grain in Kent,
Footage filmed last October shows ship Cable Enterprise laying the cable off Grain and Sheerness.
This week (July 21) vessel Leonardo da Vinci - the world’s largest cable laying ship - has arrived several miles off Margate, Kent to start the second phase of the cable installation.
The NeuConnect project is expected to be operational by 2028.
