A pet dog amazed motorists when it was seen patiently waiting for the red light to change before travelling along a road.

Footage shows the stray animal perched beside vehicles as traffic halted in Surin, northeast Thailand, on July 18.

The brown pooch, with white fur around its neck, looked in the direction of the signal before watching nearby motorcycle riders.

One motorbiker gestured to the dog to move to the roadside, where it would be safer to wait and amusingly, the animal followed.

Driver Phunyu Thasanee, who was in a car behind them, said: ‘The dog was so smart. It seemed to understand how traffic rules work.'

The pup waited more than 30 seconds before road users began moving. It stayed on the grassy pavement as instructed by one of the bikers who had noticed it.
