A fox that was hit by a car and became stuck in the grille was rescued by firefighters.

A group of firemen retrieved the hapless hoary fox trapped beneath the vehicle's bonnet in Minas Gerais, Brazil.

Footage shows rescuers carefully prying open the metal bars on July 22.

They then gently pulled the vulpine from the opening, with one official calmly holding and stroking the visibly shaken animal to keep it relaxed.

Local media reported that the fox did not sustain any injuries from the incident.

The animal was taken to the Federal University of Uberlândia's Wildlife Centre for specialist veterinary care.
