A terrifying locust plague swept across Ukraine, devouring all the crops in its path.

Dramatic footage captured by Katerina Horbunova shows thousands of insects flying across the clear blue sky in Kushuhum, Zaporizhzhia Oblast, on July 20.

Katerina said: 'Experts attribute the spread of the locusts to the dry summer and the lack of soil treatment due to the ongoing war.

'Residents complain that the locusts are flying over residential areas, even entering upper-floor windows and settling on balconies and trees. They are everywhere - in yards, gardens, and even inside homes.'

Authorities have conducted inspections and are actively assessing the extent of the damage, with some villagers reporting significant crop losses.

Officials said that a response plan is being developed and emphasised that efforts are underway to manage the situation.

Locusts are a type of grasshopper known for their ability to form large swarms that can travel great distances. When environmental conditions are favourable, such as during dry periods followed by rain, locust populations can increase rapidly. These swarms can cause extensive damage to crops and vegetation, posing a serious threat to agriculture and food security in affected areas.
