Pet dog trapped in cage rescued from floods in the Philippines
This is the heartwarming moment a pet dog that was trapped in a cage submerged in floods from Typhoon Wipha was rescued in the Philippines.
The pit bull was left by its owners, who were forced to flee when the water suddenly rose up to 5ft (2m) in the capital Manila on July 21.
Footage shows the canine barking for help as firefighters conducting search and rescue operations found him on the flooded property.
The big pooch was already neck-deep in water when volunteers arrived at the empty home.
The local fire department took the dog to an evacuation centre, where his owners were waiting.
When officers asked why the pit bull had been left behind, the family explained they had another large pet and were unable to bring both dogs during the evacuation.
The furry animal was unharmed and is now staying at the temporary shelter with his family until weather conditions improve.
The flooding came amid the devastation caused by Typhoon Wipha, which began as a low-pressure area in the eastern part of the Philippines.
Wipha gradually intensified, bringing days of heavy rainfall and widespread flooding across the country before moving toward the south of Taiwan, where it triggered landslides and disrupted flights.
Officials said at least seven people have been killed in the Philippines with 58,000 evacuated.
The storm strengthened into a full typhoon over water, packing maximum sustained winds of 102 km/h (63 mph) when it made landfall in Guangdong, China. Its impact was also felt in Hong Kong, where hundreds of residents were evacuated to temporary shelters.
Wipha's reach extended to Vietnam, where it made landfall and left at least three people dead. Authorities deployed 350,000 soldiers on standby to respond to emergencies.
Thailand also experienced heavy rainfall and widespread flooding from the impact of the typhoon.
