Storyline: China discovers world's deepest sandstone industrial uranium mineralization [Voice_over] The China Atomic Energy Authority have just announced the discovery of sandstone industrial uranium mineralization, about 1,800 meters underground in the Tarim Basin of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. CAEA officials say the find sets a new record for the world's deepest sandstone industrial uranium mineralization, which is believed to be a reliable clue for finding industrial uranium deposits. It is the first time that a large-scale industrial uranium mineralization has been found in the heart of the Tarim Basin—a desert-covered region previously considered a blank spot for uranium mining. [Sound_bite] Qin Mingkuan, principal investigator, China National Nuclear Corporation: "We have made predictions of the mineralization prospects of the Tarim Basin at different scales. Based on the prediction results, we carried out remote sensing, geophysical, geochemical and other measurements or explorations in key prospective areas. By implementing relatively deep drilling verification, we finally discovered thick industrial uranium mineralization in the desert heart of the Tarim Basin. The discovery is of significance and has great value and prospects."
